Pilotage Exemption Certificate (PEC)

To apply for a Pilotage Exemption Certificate please download, complete and return the following forms:

Please note:

  • Applications must be completed in block capitals with black ink and written in English
  • Photocopies of certificates of competency and medical certificate, showing expiry date should be returned with the application.  
  • The person countersigning the form must hold a senior position (Director, Marine Superintendent, Personnel Manager, etc.) with the owning or managing company, and be authorised to sign for or on behalf of the owner or manager that the details entered by the officer are correct.
  • Exemption from pilotage is granted, after successful examination, to bona fide deck officer of ships.
  • An invoice will be issued after initial issue or annual renewal of the certificate.
  • Pilotage Exemption Certificates are valid for one year from the issue date, and will be sent direct to the owners/managers.

Returning your application

Once completed, signed, countersigned and stamped with the company stamp, please return to the Marine Department via email: [email protected]


When your application has been reviewed, you will be required to attend a PEC induction meeting at a mutually convenient date and time at our Harwich office.
