Now in its 16th year, Harwich International Shanty Festival has become the UKs Premier Shanty Festival, attracting Artists and audiences from around the world. The streets of the old town ring with the sound of rousing shanties, with music and singing emanating from pubs, clubs and many of the towns historic landmarks. The rich maritime history of the old town makes Harwich the perfect place for this annual celebration of its relationship with the sea.
Traditional shanties mix with colourful costumed actors, pirates and maritime craftspeople, all adding to the atmosphere. There are shanty trains running between Manningtree and Harwich Town, regular trips onboard a traditional Thames Sailing Barge, walks, talks, workshops, concerts and open air entertainment, much of it free of charge. In 2022 the Festival takes place over the weekend of 7-9th October and offers a full three days of entertainment. A detailed programme plus tickets for all concerts are available at the end of August, meanwhile follow our Social Media channels and website: https://harwichshantyfestival.co.uk/

Tendring CAMRA – Harwich Sausage Festival
Saturday 5th November 2022
- The festival starts with the pre-meat at 11:00am at The Stingray.
- The sausage throwing takes place on Harwich Green from 11:30am to midday.
- Competition tasting at the Alma, New Bell and Stingray from midday to 14:30pm.
- Meanwhile the Sausage Fringe takes place in Samuel Pepys, the Globe and the Crown Post.
Come hither to the historic seaport of Harwich and witness the medieval* spectacle of sausage throwing, as grown men and women try to hurl seasoned pork projectiles as far as they can. Following on from this fabulous frivolity, three fantastic local inns throw open their doors for the gathered masses to test the wares of the finest butchers of the Tendring Hundred and determine the public’s favourite sausage, all washed down with the choicest real ales and ciders.
