2025-03: Port Waste Reception Facilities

08 October 2025

Harwich Haven Authority’s involvement with port waste management is documented within its Port Waste Management Plan and is focussed on Harwich Haven Authority’s operated marine facilities. These are Halfpenny Pier & the Harbour Master’s Jetty.

Should anyone have any concerns regarding waste reception facilities at the above locations please contact Harwich Haven Authority by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01255 243030. All other berths, terminals, marinas and recreational clubs are operated independently and manage their own waste as required by their operation.

This Port Information Notice replaces 01-2022, which is now withdrawn.

How to report inadequate waste reception facilities

UK Flagged Ships

It is recommended that alleged inadequacy of waste reception facilities is first raised with the berth/terminal operator.

If the problem is not resolved then the form provided in Annex C of MGN 563 (M+F) Amendment 2 (Guidance on the implementation of Port Waste Reception Facilities for ships and harbours/ports/terminals, updated in April 2024) should be completed by the Master, ship-owner or agent and submitted to the MCA:

PWR Inadequacies,

Clean Ship Operations Team,

Maritime and Coastguard Agency

Spring Place

105 Commercial Road

Southampton, SO151EG

or via email: [email protected]

Foreign Flagged Ships:

It is recommended that alleged inadequacy of waste reception facilities is first raised with the berth / terminal operator.  If the problem is not resolved at the time, then the ship should contact their own flag to request the appropriate action to be taken via the IMO.
