Harwich Haven Authority were the headline sponsor at the 2022 Tendring Youth Awards, in partnership with Essex County Council and Tendring District Council.
On Tuesday 5 July 2022, Harwich Haven Authority’s Corporate Affairs team attended a glitzy presentation evening at the Princes Theatre, Clacton, to celebrate young people from Harwich and Dovercourt who demonstrate determination, enthusiasm and passion for their community.
“As one of the largest employers in Harwich and the East of England’s largest trust port we were delighted to once again sponsor the Tendring Youth Awards” says Harwich Haven Authority CEO, Neil Glendinning
“I continue to be inspired by the great work both young people and adults are doing to make improvements in their local communities. Everyone should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
Alongside the award presentations were performances by Stagestruck and Harwich Sing Tendring Voices, as well as speeches by dignitaries Mr Nigel Spencer, Her Majesty’s Deputy Lord-Lieutenant for Essex, and Mr Nick Alston, High Sheriff of Essex.
In addition to sponsoring the overall event, Harwich Haven Authority championed two specific awards categories – Community Improvement and Unsung Hero.
The Community Improvement award was won by the Multi-Schools Council who work to break down the negative perceptions of children with Special Educational Needs (SEND) and mental health difficulties in the community. Last summer they climbed Mount Snowdown to raise awareness that SEND children can conquer mountains and reach their potential, raising more than £3000.
Chris Bareham who runs the Westcliff Youth Theatre won the Unsung Hero award. Chris encourages children to be the best they can be and helps them to flourish regardless of their ability.
