Harwich Haven Authority and Partners Secure Funding from UK Government for Digital Twin project
08 August 2025

Harwich Haven Authority, in conjunction with Purple Sector, Serco and the RNLI, are extremely proud to be part of the UK’s drive to decarbonise the maritime sector through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 (CMDC6), with our project OptiMar.
Funded by UK Government through the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) and delivered in partnership with InnovateUK, OptiMar will deliver a pre-deployment trial using digital twin technology to optimise vessel configuration, operations, and emissions performance.
We’re excited to begin this next phase alongside our partners.
ESG Director, Melissa Wellings, said:
“At Harwich Haven Authority, we are committed to driving sustainable innovation across the maritime sector. Our involvement in the OptiMar project under the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition reflects our dedication to advancing data-driven solutions that reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. Partnering with Purple Sector enables us to play an active role in shaping a cleaner, smarter future for UK ports and coastal operations.”
The project is one of many that will be demonstrating and showcasing innovative technology across the UK in 2025 – involving a wide range of vessel types and new infrastructure in ports and UK waters.
