Free summer craft workshops on Ha’penny Pier
09 August 2018
Harwich Haven Authority – the East of England’s largest trust port – will be hosting a series of free craft workshops on Ha’penny Pier during the summer holidays.
The drop-in workshops will take place on Monday 20, Wednesday 22 and Friday 24 August in the Visitor Centre between 10am–1pm. The creative sessions will be delivered by the team from the Harwich Festival and are suitable for all ages. Children, must however, be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Artist Monique de Vlieger – whose community installation Fishy Business can be seen on Ha’penny Pier until the end of October – will lead the workshops. Children can decorate fishy bunting or have a go at sewing a small felt fish using recycled materials to take home. Harwich Haven Authority is also providing free lollies to children taking part in the activity.
“The workshops are just one of many community initiatives we have organised throughout 2018,” says Fiona Brunning, communications manager, Harwich Haven Authority.
“We have taken inspiration for the workshops from Monique’s beautiful Fishy Business installation and from our Turn the Tide on Plastic campaign – as the children will be working with recycled materials.
“There’s no need to book a place and more details about the workshops can be found on our Facebook page @harwichhaven.”
Michael Offord of the Harwich Festival, commented: “We are proud to be working with Harwich Haven Authority to deliver these free fun workshops. It’s a perfect opportunity for children of all ages to try out a new craft and to take part in the hugely successful Fishy Business community art project.”
