Harwich Haven Authority appoints ESG Director

14 April 2022

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Melissa Wellings as Environmental, Social and Governance Director.

This newly created position within the Authority further supports the organisation’s long-term strategy to improve sustainability across its business. As a member of the Authority’s senior leadership team, she will be responsible for the development and execution of the ESG strategy and implementation plans.

Melissa brings a wealth of experience to the position having previously held senior environmental management roles within Network Rail and UK Power Networks. She also worked for a joint venture between Costain and Skanska with responsibility for overseeing the environmental contractual requirements on Crossrail’s Bond Street Station, London, development.

“I’m delighted to be joining the team at Harwich Haven Authority and I believe that there is a significant opportunity both in the ports, and wider maritime sector to transition to low carbon operations, in addition to contributing to Nature Positive initiatives and increasing social value,” says Melissa.

Neil Glendinning, CEO, Harwich Haven Authority added: “The maritime industry certainly needs a significant step-change if they are to combat climate change and align with the Transport Decarbonisation Plan. We are determined to support this aim through the ports sector.

“Appointing someone of Melissa’s calibre, expertise and understanding of sustainability will put us in good stead to lead on the ESG agenda.”
