8 January 2021: Important information for Anglers using Ha’penny Pier
08 January 2021
We are pleased to let everyone know that the Government has today (8 January 2021) reconsidered the ban on angling and now views it as a form of exercise. Therefore, we are permitting anglers to use Ha’penny Pier to fish.
The guidance is very clear that Anglers should follow all current guidelines related to Hands, Space, Face and only fish with members of their own household, social bubble or one other from a different household (socially distancing at all times).
No overnight fishing will be permitted as Government guidelines state that everyone should be in their residence overnight. We emphasise that no specific time frames have been given for how long you can fish.
The Government has also made it clear that Anglers should only use facilities in their local area and not travel too far. The following statements have been issued by Government departments:
The DCMS Sports Team confirmed the following;
“fishing is allowed as exercise so long as participants adhere to the rules on staying local, gathering limits, social distancing and limiting the time spent outdoors”
This has also been confirmed by DEFRA;
“Cabinet Office have now officially confirmed that angling / fishing (incl. sea fishing off private boats, water sports) can be considered exercise and are hence permitted.”
As the owner of Ha’penny Pier we ask anyone wishing to fish be respectful of other people using the facility and to ensure they dispose of any waste responsibly.
