01-2016: Workboats – fit for purpose
As per the Port Marine Safety Code and the associated guide to good practice, the Authority requires all workboats working within the Harbour to be “fit for purpose”.
As a minimum the process requires siting of relevant vessel and crew certification and insurances, this will cover relatively simple low risk operations. More complex higher risk operations such a towage will require the vessel to undertake a fitness for purpose audit.
Vessels not required to hold statutory certification such as some vessel operating solely within the categorised waters of the Harbour and Rivers will be expected to comply with an appropriate fitness for purpose inspection.
