01-2022: Port Waste Reception Facilities

30 September 2022

Harwich Haven Authority’s involvement with port waste management is confined to the following specific areas within its statutory area of jurisdiction:

  • waste management facilities at two boat jetties (Ha’ penny Pier & Harbour Master’s Jetty)
  • supervision of waste management in the local leisure and inshore fishing industries.

Should anyone have any concerns regarding waste reception facilities at the above locations please contact Harwich Haven Authority via [email protected]

All other berths, terminals, marinas and recreational clubs are operated independently and responsible for the preparation and submission of their own individual port waste management plans.

How to report inadequate waste reception facilities

It is recommended that alleged inadequacy of waste reception facilities is first raised with the berth / terminal operator and brought to the attention of the Harwich Haven Authority.

If the problem is not resolved then the form should be completed (Annex D of MGN 563 (M+F) Amendment 1 Guidance on the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessel (Port Waste Reception Facilities) Regulations 2003 and amendments) by the Master, ship-owner or agent and submitted to the MCA:
