Tom Kitching ‘Where There’s Brass’ Sunday 16th 2024 at Harwich Arts & Heritage Centre Main Road Harwich, Essex CO12 4AJ. 2PM – 4PM
Author and musician Tom Kitching launches his new book and album, ‘Where There’s Brass’, with a special storytelling and music concert tour.
Documenting six months living in the London waterways community, making the long journey across England from Manchester on a traditional narrowboat built in 1937, ‘Where There’s Brass’ tells the story of the contemporary London water ways; a floating slum at worst, a bohemian, alternative, vibrant community at best.
Harwich Secret Gardens is in its 13th year and will have a large amount of hidden gardens and courtyards open, with some new to the scheme and some old ones resting. All the gardens are easily reachable on foot.
Teas and coffee will be provided at St Nicholas church, and there are plenty of coffee shops, pubs and restaurants for refreshment.
Profits shared between local good causes.
Cost
£5.00 adults, accompanied children free. Brochures have full garden details and a map showing places to eat.
How to get event passports
Prior to the event and also at the weekend, entry brochures will be available from the Ha’penny Pier visitors centre, Harwich Museum and Deli 141 in Dovercourt High Street. Also available at the weekend from St. Nicholas Church.
Number of gardens
Approximately 27 gardens will be open, but the total may vary from day to day – please contact the organisers if you need exact numbers.

Come to the historic seaport of Harwich and witness the medieval spectacle of sausage throwing, as grown men and women try to hurl seasoned pork sausages as far as they can. Three fantastic local inns will then throw open their doors for the gathered masses to test the wares of the finest butchers of the Tendring Hundred and determine the public’s favourite sausage, all washed down with the choicest real ales and ciders.
