07-2009: Pilot boarding and landing arrangements

Masters, Owners and Operators are hereby reminded that it is a requirement, in accordance with the relevant Regulations, that the correct equipment is deployed for boarding and landing Pilots.

Recently, there have been a number of cases where the vessels in question have failed to deploy hatchway platforms when using deck suspended ladders rendering it dangerous for the Pilot while entering or exiting a hatchway.

Failure to deploy the correct equipment may result in the Pilot refusing to board or land and may also lead to further action by the Harbour / Port State Control  Authorities.
